In the not too distant future, you'll never be too far from home, as companies like AT&T rev up the ability to give consumers the means to control practically everything in the house through smartphones, tablets and anything else that's connected to the Internet.

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, as part of the GSMA Connected House, AT&T unveiled?Digital Life,?a Web-based remote security and automation platform that will allow subscribers to open and close blinds, set thermostats and lighting timers, and lock doors and windows. If they're not at home, they can still do all these things from their devices, which will link to a cloud-based control panel. At home or away, they'll be able to see what's going on at a glance.

AT&T says Digital Life is?designed for self installation in the home or office. The carrier says consumers, small businesses and healthcare providers can benefit from the networking of devices such as motion detectors,?connected cameras, security keypads, window and door sensors, lighting and thermostat controls, smoke detectors and water sensors.
