Following an embarrassing Decision and an abysmal 2011 NBA Finals performance, a humbled, ridiculously talented LeBron James captured his first professional championship last night, as the Miami Heat finished off the Oklahama City Thunder in five very impressive games.
The closeout was a blowout, with LeBron notching a triple double and Miami winning 121-106.
"I did it the right way; I didn't short-cut anything," James said, responding to critics who have argued he did take a short-cut by joining two fellow stars on the Heat. "It's the hardest thing I've ever done."
It would be difficult to argue that James, Dwyane Wade and the Heat didn't work hard for this title. They became the first team in league history to win it all after trailing in three separate series, easily dispatching a Finals opponent who looked unstoppable leading into the matchup.
Even Cleveland Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, who positively went off on LeBron after his departure in 2010, had to send congratulations to the growing legend. Sort of.
"Great NBA season," Gilbert Tweeted last night. "Enjoyed playoffs. Congratulations to Miami & OKC for an exciting Finals. Back to work on next weeks promising Cavs draft."
